2.0rc3 is very old. There is a 2.0.1rc5 release out on ooopackages.good-day.net, but the site is not reachable from where I am at. I highly suggest upgrading to 2.0.1rc5 for increased functionality and bug fixes.

while that is a good suggestion for you and I, right now RC3 has been QAed and is still the 'latest' of the OO.oX11. the end user is still running RC3 as it is the newest listed on the OO.o site.

Did it pass QA? Then it should be a release not a release candidate.

Also, it was mentioned in the mac@porting mail list that the more folks use a particular product, the stronger the QA becomes and small, annoying problems get found and fixed. That is why I recommended the 2.0.1rc5. It definately needs to be used (and abused.)

I'm in the process of building it since I cannot get to good-day.net and no one seems to be watching it now, strictly for the QA process.
Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere to put my builds once they finish.

hmm. maybe i am misunderstanding the process. i thought it had to pass QA to go to be tested (i.e. posted to the oo.o site)

regardless my (poorly worded, i may add) point was that since RC3 is the version on the oo.o site, it is the one being used by the end user, and thus the version that the support questions are in reference to.

i'm not so sure sending them to an un-official server to get an un-official build is doing anyone any favors.

That is correct. It was my misunderstanding on what we were doing here. It was my instructions to you to get the rc5 and try it out.

What I feel needs to happen is that the newer release candidate needs to be QAd and get either rejected or accepted. I for one, do not want to see the MacOSX version to fall behind that of its peers. Fortunately, it appears that the QA process for the other operating system releases is taking quite some time for OpenOffice.org 2.0.1.

i agree too, i want the OSX version to stay up to date. i've been trying to get RC5 for a bit (even tried to get a french version before the en-US one came out) but to no avail. alas, can only keep trying.

Well, this is proving to be an adventure:

Installation is per instructions.

File Type tests 33 pass, 1 fails (MacOSX build problem which should already be addressed.)

One of the major problems I see is that the smoketest scripts need to be updated. In any case, the smoketest is underway.

though i've been trying to actually USE these programs rather than test them lately (i.e. write) ... so yeah.

There are things in the smoketest that are throwbacks to the old 1.1 releases and that should not be tested anymore (like writing StarOffice 5.x and older files). However, if you are running Panther, it might be a good idea to run through the basic functions that you are going to use and report if they work/don't work. There is a known bug with displaying Java applets on a web page and the Send -> Email function does not work (and has an open IssueZilla entry and possible fix). Other than that all I've found is some basic problems (and a possible problem with one of the test files.)

BTW, the DICTOOo function does work and it is very smooth. Maybe Patrick should look at this.

I'm still happily testing away.

DICTOOo already works in NeoOffice 1.2 and is accessed by selecting the File -> AutoPilot -> Install new dictionaries menu item.

Another 'feature' that I did not know about until I started testing OpenOffice.org 2.0.1.

BTW, can you change the name of AutoPilot to Wizards in the next release?

No. Renaming OOo menus is way outside the scope of NeoOffice.

I realize that changing the menus is outside the scope of the NeoOffice project, but the menus do change with OpenOffice 2.0.
