Every time I do anything in NeiOffice, I hear my alert sound: starting the program, switching to a new document, switching to the styles pallate, saving a document for the first time, going to the thesaurus, etc.. All of the above cause my system alert sound to go off. This is very annoying. How do I turn it off? I don't see anything for this in the preferences at all.

Yes. I have had this problem ever since NeoOffice moved to Aqua in September. I have been installing patches steadily since then. My last patch was installed November 17.

Can you try Apple > About NeoOffice just to check the patch number to make sure it applied correctly? The latest patch is Patch 8, and that was the one released on Nov. 17th. Also, did you quit Neo prior to installing the patch? That's really the best way to go about it to ensure all the updated files get installed correclty.

I've never encountered this alert sound problem at all, but there used to be a Java 1.5 bug like it in the distant past (IIRC).

Indeed it says NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta 3 Patch 8. I always quite before installing the patch. I've been using NeoOffice for well over a year so I know how to update it. I've also never had this problem until the Aqua version was released.

Incidentally, calling up the "About NeoOffice" window caused my alert sounds to ring out.

If you're on a PowerPC based mac you may also want to try switching which Java VM you're using so we can track down if it's something specific to 1.4 or 1.5 (Tools > Options > NeoOffice > Java).

I just switched from 1.4 to 1.5 and lo and behold, no alert sounds! Very Happy Thank you.

P.S.: Yup, this is a PowerPC machine.

OK, thanks. We may want to track this as a potential issue for 1.4 then as new code for window/keyboard focusing was introduced which may be the source of the issues.
