Is there a way to lock text to an image?
Let me explain: I'm writing a paper and have several photos/illustrations. Under each illustration I write a little comment.
So far I've done this as part of the rest of the text, but the problem is that if I rearrange the main text (e.g. add or remove something), the text-flow changes, thereby putting the comments for the illustration somewhere else.

So I was thinking that adding a table with 2 cells (one for the image and one for the comment-text underneath it) would solve my problem (see image above where I've marked the table in red, which will of course be invisible when done), but alas I'm not able to move the whole table around to where I want it. If I click/drag the image, I move the image out of the table and into the new place. Frustrating!

Instead of inserting a table, you can try to insert a Frame in which you insert your image and the comments below the image.

Then you can move the frame, thus the image and the comments at the same time.

Hope that helps.

There is a Caption option when you insert a picture into your Writer doc, but in its current version it's too buggy to use - if you move the image after adding a caption, the caption doesn't follow the image. Maybe this has been fixed in later versions of OpenOffice, but the current NeoOffice is not based on the latest OOo for various sensible reasons.

*edit* I'll experiment with later versions of OOo and see what happens...

Okay, I've tried image captions with OOo 2.4 and the bug is still present - as there's no way in Writer to select more than one frame at the same time, and for some daft reason, they've elected to put the caption in a separate frame from the image. This means that if you want to move the image, you have to then select the caption frame, and move that until it lines up again.

Of course, Neo, if it's the body text you want to move around and edit, and the image and caption are in the right place and aren't going to get moved, the this will do exactly what you want.
