I am a new user of Neo and would like to know more about it.
Is it a real office suite with separate programmes like MS Office or is it more like MS Works with the limitations that follows of an integrated programme?

What kind of data base programme is Base. A flat one like in MS Works or MS Excel or a relation type like in MS Access?

NeoOffice is a Mac port of OpenOffice.org.

NeoOffice (like OpenOffice.org--hereafter referred to as OOo) is composed of a variety of different components (Writer, Calc, Draw, Base, etc.), but those components are not separate stand-alone programs as is the case with MS Office. Instead, when you start NeoOffice, the entire application with all its attendant components load.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the limitations that follows of an integrated programme." I've not use MS Works, so I can't give you a comparision there. I did use Appleworks fairly extensively, as well as a very old version of MS Word for Mac (5.1). The various components of Neo have far more depth and features that Appleworks. Writer has proven to be a very able replacement for me for MS Word when my pre OS X mac died.

Base is a relational database. It is, however, the newest component of OOo and NeoOffice and not as refined as the other components. Many of the most powerful features require the use of Basic macros.

I would encourage you do download and read (or skim) the NeoOffice User Guide and/or look through our wiki to get a better sense of what NeoOffice can do.

if i may add, ms office is not fully separate either. it has a full library that is shared by all programs. so while you have a nice icon for word, excel, powerpoint, there is a standard that is loaded with whichever you load first to help with running, use and integration between the programs.
