I'm not sure whether this is a documentation problem, software bug, or user stupidity. I installed the latest NeoOffice, and patch 8, last week, on my MacBookPro with OS X 10.5.1. I did this after the new MS Office was, for me, a nightmare. And, yes, I donated first. <g>
I am trying to get the page numbers in an index to be hyperlinked to the page referenced. The documentation says go to the Entries tab of Insert>Indexes and Tables>Indexes and Tables, click before the <E#> and click the Hyperlink button. Well, there being no hyperlink button on that dialog window, I tried opening the hyperlink toolbar. But I can't click behind the Indexes and Tables modal dialog. I searched in the forum for a solution, but found none. I know this is possible, as somehow I managed to get a table of contents with hyperlinks. But I don't know how to control it.
To add a bit more detail, I found that there is a hyperlink button on the Indexes and Tables dialog window, but it only appears for a Table of Contents, and not for an Index. While the heading in the documentation refers to both Indexes and Tables of Contents, the specific sentence about hyperlinks only refers to the Table of Contents:
"Hyperlinks can be automatically assigned to the entries in the table of contents using the following method:"
So it looks like this is just user stupidity.
On the bright side, despite reading in numerous places that OpenOffice does not support Tables of Authorities, I found that the Index feature works great for that purpose, except for the lack of hyperlinked page numbers.
