|
Since I installed Tiger, Start OpenOffice.org results in the message: OpenOffice could not be launched with the following details:
"javaldx(530) malloc: *** error for object 0x50e8e0 incorrect checksum for freed object - object was probably modified after being freed, break at szone_error to debug javaldx(530)malloc: ***set a breakpoint in szone_error to debug"
What can I do ? |

Eric Bachard, who built the problematic 1.1.4 version, has an new 1.1.4 version that works on 10.4 and only 10.4, found here.
Or you can go back to the official version, 1.1.2, which runs on 10.4 just fine.
Or use NeoOffice/J, which also offers 1.1.4-level support, runs on 10.4, and has lots of Aqua goodies

|
I downloaded Eric Bachards new version for tiger (http://ooo.lab-project.net/~ebachard/MacOSX/1.1.4/Tiger/) and uninstalled OOo1.1.2 english version (manually as there was an execution error using the uninstall-program).
Trying to launch version 1.1.4 I get the following message:
dyld:Library not loaded /usr/X11R6/lib/libXinerama.1.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/OpenOffice.org1.1.4/program/libvcl645mxp.dylib
Reason: image not found.
Can anybody give me a hint what is wrong ?
Thanks |

Unfortunately Eric's builds tend to have these problems - they work fine on his Tiger system. My own build of OOo 1.1.4 works fine on Jaguar (where it was built), Panther and Tiger.
How did you launch OOo 1.1.4 - did you use "Start OpenOffice.org"?
The only options I think you have are :
1) Upgrade your version of Tiger to 10.4.1. Was your system upgraded from Panther, or a clean install of Tiger?
2) Make sure you have the (optional?) X11User.pkg software (X11.app) installed.
3) Make a symbolic link from whatever /usr/X11R6/lib/libXinerama.dylib is available, to /usr/X11R6/lib/libXinerama.1.dylib.
4) Give up, and follow some of the other suggestions Smokey gave earlier.
Regards, Terry |

Yes, X11 is still an optional install on Tiger and is disabled by default. If you are upgrading from Panther, the X11 that was installed with Panther will generally not work right after the update and you'll have to re-install it, particularly if you upgrade by the "clean install" approach. The upgrades tend to hork things in /usr and /usr/local, but the old Panther X11.app may still remain in App/Utilities.
I think the X11.pkg is in one of the subfolders on the DVD and can also be accessed from the "Optional Installs" (optional packages?) metapackage on the root of the DVD.

Unless you are really set on using X11 software, I would recommend that you download and install NeoOffice/J. It uses the OpenOffice.org 1.1.4 code and it runs quite well on Tiger without the need for X11.
You can download NeoOffice/J from here:

Following Terry Teagues advice I just reinstalled X11 form the install-DVD and OO 1.1.4 started again.
(Indeed X11 was still in the applications folder, making me believe, there is what I need - but the rest probably was deinstalled during the upgrade to 10.4 !).
Meanwhile I used NeoOffice/J without any problems. But I had the impression, that sometimes it works a bit slower than OpenOffice.
I thank you all for your support ! |
