Bugzilla isn't sending me my password so I must post this here (I did check my junk folder).
If you download the Neo document attached to the thread called "Grammar checking works for selection but not whole document" and then contextual-click on the Table of Contents and choose Update Index/Table, it deletes not only the contents but every page of the 193-page document, except for the first two pages.
I have bad news, I can reproduce the bug you identified in all versions of OpenOffice.org from version 2.2.1 (which NeoOffice 2.2.5 is based on) through 3.0.1 (their latest version) so this is definitely an OpenOffice.org bug.
Unfortunately, our very limited funding and developer resources limits the current scope of the NeoOffice project to keeping a native version of OpenOffice.org running on Mac OS X and fixing OpenOffice.org bugs is outside that scope.
You can file a bug in the OpenOffice.org issue tracker to get it on the radar of the core OpenOffice.org developers and if they fix the bug, the new behavior will get included in a future release of NeoOffice:
Note : our advice is to not mention NeoOffice as mentioning NeoOffice may cause OOo volunteers to accidentally close it without actually reviewing your bug.
Since we had to add some extra steps to our grammar checking macro to get to read your entire document, I suspect that there is something within your document that is triggering this bug. So, while we cannot fix OpenOffice.org's bug, we can look for workarounds.
One potential workaround is to press Command-A to select the entire document, press Command-N to create a new, empty Writer document, and press Command-V to paste the data into the new document.
Does that work for you? When I did that, the document is slightly shorter and I no longer see the Update Index/Table option in the popup menu.
