After finishing a drawing I tried to add a caption, which seems to create an extra box. I can't delete the box now (the white on in the picture) as it deletes the drawing.

Note that it isn't a separate object that is grouped to the drawing, as I've checked that. But it is definitely associated with the drawing.

How can I get rid of this box, or is it supposed to be the boundary of the drawing?

Based on the red arrow in the lower right corner I wonder if the white box is a table. When you click on it does the Table toolbar popup?

Hi Fran,

Thanks for your input Very Happy

I have updated the image to show when the white box is actually selected, just to make it clearer what might be going on.

It doesn't seem to be a table... as I checked what you suggested and when I click on it it doesn't bring up the table toolbar pop-up. So I'm still flummoxed Wink

Thank you for the updated image. I see there is an anchor present and I think that changing what the box is anchored to may make a difference.

Can you please test this by selecting the white box and placing your cursor on the edge of the box. Command-click and in the popup menu that appears go to Anchor? What is checked there? If it is not To Page, do things change if you select To Page?

thanks --fran

If that does not work, the problem could be that the image is anchored to a frame and that frame is the white box. This would explain why when the white box is deleted the image is deleted as well.

To test this select the image and repeat the steps to see what the image is anchored to. Try anchoring the image To Page.

Does that make any difference?

Thanks again for your help... very appreciated Very Happy

I finally worked out what it is Smile

I went to trusty old google and searched for "red triangle neo office" (minus quotes) and found out that this white box is indeed a frame. It really helped when you said "frame" as I started out thinking that it wasn't part of the drawing per se.

I also worked out that frames are generated as part of the "add caption" functionality, and then the new frame is auto-grouped to the drawing. The issue is that if it's deleted it takes the whole drawing with it! And also it can be resized.

So I had to "ungroup" in order to then delete the frame lol.

A lot of confusion for my newbie cotton socks Wink

I think the "add caption" functionality needs to be improved, as it seems like a nasty hack at the moment... but hey ho... nothing is perfect. Neo-Office is still awesome in my book Very Happy

I think this is case closed Fran in regard to this issue. I have really appreciated your prompt response and hope you have a great weekend Very Happy You have pretty much made my day giving me support and hints.

Take care,
Mike Very Happy
