NeoOffice will crash after closing a document with a strange "letter" in the file name.
One of my users made this file. I am not sure what the first "letter" is. It is not a space, from the command line it shows up as a ? or ^P. Anyways, if you open it and do, or don't do, anything in the file and close the file it will crash NeoOffice. _________________ Wisdom from IRC:

Although this might not fix anything, can you try installing the following test patch and tell us if the crashing still occurs? The following test patch fixes the crashing described in bug 3417 and I am hoping that it might also fix this bug.

It looks like the filename somehow has an (illegal) control character, U+0010, as its first character.
Bizarre.

Yah I am not sure where that control character came from. That was causing the problem. I talked to the user and she doesn't "remember" hitting anything while typing the name from file save as, but she might have. My thought on the idea is that perhaps there should be a filter for file names that does not allow certain control characters? _________________ Wisdom from IRC:

I created bug 3428 to track this crash due to odd filename issue as the test patch does not seem to help.

Can anyone confirm if this same bug occurs in OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 or not? If it does not, then that would be really helpful to know as it would point to a bug in Novell's Go-oo modifications to the OpenOffice.org code is what is causing this bug and eliminating a Go-oo modification that has a bug.
Also, if you add yourself to the CC: list in that bug, you will be automatically notified when I have a test patch available for this bug.

Yep, it does crash in 3.0.1, too.
OOo manages to clear the lock file—and show the "Oops, we crashed; let's restart and recover open files" dialogue (which ends up creating a crash loop!)

Thanks for confirming this. While we normally do not fix OpenOffice.org bugs, crashing bugs can cause loss of data so I will try to determine the cause of this bug and fix it.

I think that I have fixed this OpenOffice.org crashing bug. I have posted links to a test patch in my last post in bug 3428.
Can you install the test patch and tell us if the bug is fixed for you?
