Hello,
I have a text document including a head of page. In this head of page is included an auto page numbering. If I select for this page number, the same font as for rest of the head of page (Arial 16) under NeoOffice, when the document is open with Word, it is back in Times New Roman 16.
If I make the font selection under Word, when the document is open with NeoOffice, it's back in Times New Roman 16 again.
How could I save the same font, whichever the software used?
This problem occurs ONLY with the auto page numbering. All the rest of the head of page remains in Arial.
Regards,

I cannot reproduce this. I opened a .doc file saved in NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 7 in Word 2008, changed the font to Arial, and saved the .doc file. Then, when I reopened the .doc file in NeoOffice, the font was still Arial.

Since I cannot reproduce this. Can you answer the following questions?:

1. What version and patch is shown in when you select the Help :: About NeoOffice menu? It should say NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 7. If the patch number does not match, can you install Patch 7 from the NeoOffice patch download page and tell us if anything changes?

2. Are you saving as a .doc file or a .docx file? If you are saving as .docx, does saving as a .doc file in Word preserve the font?

Thank you Pluby,
About my NeoOffice version, I do have patch 7.
And the problem ONLY concerns the page number digits. All the rest of the head of page is NOT concerned.
Whatever I save the head of page under NeoOffice as a MS Word 97/2004 then open it under MS Word 2004, or I save it under MS Word 2004 then open it under NeoOffice, the digits configured in Arial are changed into Times New Roman.

Can you try the following steps and see if the page number remains in Arial?:

1. Place the cursor in the header, right before the auto page number.

2. Control-click, or right-click, and select Edit Paragraph Style from the menu that appears.

3. Select the Font tab.

4. Under Western text font select Font :: Arial, Typeface :: Regular and Size :: 16pt.

5. Press the OK button.

After doing these steps do the page numbers remain in Arial?

It appears that the Word export filters in NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code overrides the font that you set manually in the page numbers with what was in the paragraph style.

Hi,
I have tried it but at first, if I put the cursor right before the auto page number, the list says Arial but the number is displayed as Times.
To change it I need to select the auto page number, select Arial and 16... but I didn't see any OK button.
Anyway, then the number is displayed as Arial, and I save the file with the number still in Arial.
When I open this file with Word, the auto page number is again in Times.
Sorry.

Sorry to come back again, but...
I went into NeoOffice Writer preferences and switched the default font from Times to Arial. And now, everything is OK.
The Arial font selected for the auto page number is preserved when opened with Word.
Then I did the reverse. Under NeoOffice still with the same Preferences (Arial), select Times for the auto page number, save it, then open with Word, and auto page number has been saved as Times.
So, it seems NeoOffice Writer Preferences have some influence in that case.

Did you use Control-click to display a menu and then select "Edit Paragraph Style"? That will open a Paragraph Style dialog window where the font can be specified. And there is an OK button at the bottom of the screen.

The steps I gave in my last post to set the font using "Edit Paragraph Style" is the same principle. If you create all your documents in Arial, it may be more convenient for you to set the font through Preferences.

Hi Narf,
I did apply partially because I didn't go down enough into the window, and stopped at "Paragraph".
I have seen now the "Edit paragraph style" and noted that it changes also the Writer Preferences.
Using either way works well.
Many thanks.
