Quote:
Permanent injunction prohibits Microsoft from selling or importing to the United States any Microsoft Word products that have the capability of opening .XML, .DOCX or DOCM files (XML files) containing custom XML. The court is requiring Microsoft to comply with the injunction within 60 days.

Nice, but I thought the point of XML was that you could customise as much as you like without endangering the archive function of a document. Or is MS only allowed to read their own custom version of XML now?

Software and law are not a pleasant match.

Best wishes,
Oscar

Well, I remember from reading through that it was patents related more to embedding custom schemas that would be interpreted as business logic. While I'm not sure, I think the closest analogy is "forms" but more in an XML encoding that can be linked to some other type of system via SharePoint. SharePoint really is one of those nifty little trojans that's making some inroads into business. I've not used it myself, but my understanding is that it almost allows people to make little tonka toy CRM systems from within Office...what will all the filemaker fans do?
