Short question first. When I first start Neooffice, it opens a text document,
how can I get it to open something else (or nothing)?
Now my real question. I'm transitioning from AppleWorks and in it I could
define the size of a spreadsheet document (number of cols, number of rows).
Neooffice doesn't seem to have this ability. Is there a way to set the number
of columns and rows in Neooffice?
BTW, yes, I could set the window size to how I want it but then the next
window I open will be of the previous size. Say, I have two spreadsheets,
one is 4 cols by 40 rows and one that 8 cols by 10 rows. I open the 8x10
and size the window accordingly, do my business and close it. Now I open
the 4x40 sheet and I get a wide, short window when I should get a skinny,
long one. I find having to resize windows all the time irksome.
I've found this feature of AppleWorks very useful and if Neo can do this I'd
like to know how. And if it can't, maybe it would be a good feature to add.

Predefining the size of a spreadsheet is not a feature which is available in NeoOffice as far as I am aware. If you can say what it was about this feature which was useful to you, there may be some other way of achieving what you want.
The NeoOffice project is focussed on making the OpenOffice.org office suite available on the Macintosh platform. It is funded entirely by donations. Its limited resources mean that it is not possible to make changes which would involve modifying the underlying OpenOffice.org code upon which NeoOffice is based.
You could have a look and see if your request is already on the OpenOffice.org Issues database, and whether OOo think they might implement it. If they do, then in time it would probably appear in a NeoOffice release. I suspect, however, that they might not as, in general, OOo tends to look to MS Office as its leading model. _________________ MacBook Pro

It is possible to define a print range in NeoOffice. See this article in the Neowiki. It's not identical to the feature in Appleworks you're speaking of, but depending on why that was an important feature for you, defining a print range might do what you need.

I may be wrong, but I think theothereric just wants to define the window size on a per-document basis, so that when he opens a spreadsheet, he can see all its contents in the window, even when dealing with spreadsheets which have different numbers of columns and different layouts…
