Hi,
since I've installed NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 7 I'm missing the hyphenation feature (German version) and the templates (which I only recognized yesterday, when I needed a template).
With "templates" I mean some pre-formatted model letters.
How can I secure that this won't happen with the next update? Where are the templates on my Mac so I can save them before updating NeoOffice?

Hi,
I justed googled for the hyphenation problem and I am glad to see a lot of people had problems with it after update to NeoOffice 3.0 (in German online forums). On the other hand I found no intelligible solution for me. And I don't want to register with many online forums to ask everywhere for a clear description what I can do to re-establish the hyphenation.

From your posts, I assume that you upgraded from NeoOffice 2.2.5. Is that correct?

If so, you should only see this type of "loss of settings" once as the underlying issue in both cases is that NeoOffice 2.2.x and NeoOffice 3.0.x maintain separate user preference files. This is done because NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code made very incompatible changes to the user preference files between their OpenOffice.org 2.2.x and 3.0.x versions.

Fortunately, you can reenable any template files that you added in NeoOffice 2.2.x by following the steps in this NeoWiki article.

To reenable German hyphenation, you will need to install a new OpenOffice.org 3.x hyphenation extension from OpenOffice.org. Sun Microsystems' OpenOffice.org engineers completely changed how spellcheck dictionaries and hyphenation files are installed.

To install a German hyphenation extension, select the Tools :: Language :: More Dictionaries Online... menu. This will open OpenOffice.org's web page that has many spellcheck dictionaries and hyphenation files. You will need to search for a German hyphenation file. Once you find and download it, install it by selecting the Tools :: Extension Manager menu and in the dialog that appears, press the Add button and select the downloaded file.

Do the above steps allow you to recover your NeoOffice 2.2.x template files and German hyphenation?

No. Hi Patrick, I've first tried the solution for the hyphenation problem.
1) The Extension Manager had a list without German but a follow-up with further extensions.
2) That link lead my to http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/getmore?cid=920794 There I found "hyphenation" under "tags".
3) That lead to http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/taxonomy/term/246
with four pages of hypenation extension but no German. I went through that list twice.
4) A search for "German hyphenation" at that very page lead me to
German (de-DE-frami) dictionaries: spell checking, hyphenation, thesaurus 2009.07.01 by OpenOffice.org - Deutschsprachiges Projekt (K. Zeiler)
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/node/2597
It tells me
Version: 2009.07.01 Date: 2009-Jul-01 Size: 2.5 MB
Operating System: System Independent
Compatible with: OpenOffice.org 3.0 | StarOffice 9 or higher.

Do you think that is the right one for NeoOffice 3.0?
I will tackle the template problem right after this posting.

Yes. That should be the right one. If it says it is compatible with OpenOffice.org 3.0, then it should be compatible with both NeoOffice 3.0 and our upcoming 3.0.1 release.

Hi Patrick,
concerning the template problem I have news.
My Neo Office path for templates was a string of paths with Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-3.0/user/template at the last place. I've deleted all other paths. Now the Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-3.0/user/template (which contains my 5 templates) is the only one.
But still to noavail. When I create a new document in NeoOffice it gives me no chance to select from these templates.
- selecting "file new / text document" gives me a blank page straight away.
- selecting "file new / template & document" gives me a selection pane for "new document", "template", "own files", "examples" etc.
At no option do I see my 5 templates, let alone select any of these.

Here is how I accessed some .ott files that I copied into my ~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-3.0/user/template folder. Can you try the following steps and tell us if they work for you?:

1. Quit and restart NeoOffice. This seems to be a key step for NeoOffice to recognize any new template files that you have copied into that folder.

2. Select the File :: New :: Templates and Documents menu

3. In the dialog that appears, click on the Templates icon in the left column and then double-click on the My Templates icon that appears. Your template documents should them appear in the dialog.

To make one of these templates the default document that opens when you select the File :: New :: Text Document menu, you will need to do the following steps:

1. Select the File :: Templates :: Organize menu

2. In the dialog that appears, double-click on the My Templates icon. A list of your template files should appear.

3. Select one of your template files and then click on the Commands button. A popup menu will appear. Select the Set as Default Template option from the popup menu and press the OK button.

You're right, although I haven't copied any new templates. I have just told NeoOffice the path where to find the templates (which it also already had, but at the end of a long list of paths, separated by semicolons. Now Neo Office only has 1 path to the templates)

Now everything works, thank you.
The default template already worked before (that is the one with the compulsory footing; I've created that one new a couple of days ago)
