Does anyone know why when I type in NeoOffice Writer, sometimes I get a straight apostrophe and sometimes I get a curly one? Is there a way to "search and replace" all straight ones with curly ones? Thanks.

I have to investigate how to search and replace the existing curly quotes, but in the meantime you can stop this replacement behavior by selecting the Tools :: Autocorrect menu. In the dialog that appears, click on the Custom Quotes tab, uncheck the Replace checkboxes, and press the OK key.

In the morning (it is late here in California), I will see if I can find some steps to search and replace existing curly quotes.

OK. Here are the steps to search and replace the curly apostrophes once you have unchecked the Replace checkboxes in the Tools :: Autocorrect dialog:

1. Highlight one of the curly apostrophes with your mouse

2. Select the Edit :: Find & Replace menu. In the dialog that appears, the "Search for" field should already have the curly apostrophe that you highlighted in the previous step. Type a single quote character (') in the "Replace with" field and press the Replace All button.

3. Close the dialog and repeat the above steps for the other curly apostrophe.

Does the above steps completely replace the curly apostrophes with single quotes?

Thank you Patrick. What I finally did in the Find & Replace dialog box was to paste a straight apostrophe into the Search For box and a curly apostrophe into the Replace With box and then hit the Replace All button. This worked. What caused me trouble was when I pasted a curly apostrophe into the Replace With box, it appeared as a straight apostrophe even though it wasn't. I appreciate your help.
