I've been working on a book written entirely with NeoOffice. Will publishers accept a NeoOffice file? Is it possible to transfer a 450 page file from NeoOffice to Microsoft Word? I tried using Export to create a pdf file on my desktop, but Word won't open it. Any tips?

Thanks, Paul Gabel

I do not know what file formats publishers accept. It probably depends on the publisher but I would suspect that they accept either Microsoft Word or PDF format.

To save as Word format, select the File :: Save As menu and in the dialog that appears, change the Type listbox to "Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP". This will export your NeoOffice Writer file to a .doc file.

Note that Word's .doc format is not the native format the NeoOffice uses so you may lose some formatting when saving to a Word .doc file. So, I would recommend saving your work in NeoOffice's default .odt file format and then when you are ready to send a .doc file to a publisher, use the File :: Save As menu to save to a .doc file. Then, to make sure that NeoOffice was able to convert your document OK, close your document, open the .doc file that you saved, and double-check that it looks OK.

If your publisher accepts PDF, then definitely use that. However, PDF is not an editable document format like NeoOffice Writer or Word files. Instead, it is really an image file format so only Mac OS X's Preview application and Adobe's Acrobat Reader application can open PDF files.
