this is in 3.0.2 patch 0

i have a column containing calendar dates in one sheet.
in another sheet i have a dropdown cell with assigned validity refering to that column of calendar dates.

when i drop the list to select my value of choice, i see integer numbers in the 42000 range instead of calendar date formated information. selecting is still possible and eventually leads to a formatted result, but not having the formatting available while selecting is a bit of a nuisance.

is this something i should address with the open office fellas?
thanks, mats

Is there not some way to apply a date format to your dropdown cell?

I cannot reproduce this when I create a listbox in a new spreadsheet and assign a range of date cells so can you provide a sample spreadsheet file that we can look at?

You can attach a sample file using the steps in this forum post.

Thank you for the sample document. I can easily reproduce your problem when I select the date cell on the last sheet and click on the dropdown list icon next to the cell.

Unfortunately, the bad news is that this same problem occurs in OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 (the version that NeoOffice 3.0.2 is based on) as well as in OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 (the version that the next version of NeoOffice will be based on) so this is definitely a missing OpenOffice.org feature.

There is some good news. I found that this problem no longer occurs in OpenOffice.org 3.2 which was released last month. While our next release in April or May will be based on the older OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 code, we will likely upgrade NeoOffice to the OpenOffice.org 3.2 code in the second half of 2010.

In the meantime, if you find seeing the OpenOffice.org code's underlying date numbers in your Validity listboxes, a workaround is to download and install OpenOffice.org 3.2 and open your spreadsheets with this type of Validity listbox in OpenOffice.org 3.2.

Both NeoOffice and OpenOffice.org can coexist on the same machine although I recommend that you only run one or the other at the same time as both applications use lots of memory and running both at the same time may leave very little memory for other applications.
