The only save option I get in NeoOffice textedit's dropdown menu is "save a version."
I believe this only started happening after I upgraded to Lion last week; whatever th3e cause, it's a pain. Can anyone help?

| Versions is a Lion feature that NeoOffice has implemented. Expect to see it a lot more in other applications as they are upgraded for Lion. There's more information about Versions here. |

Basically, "Save a Version" is really NeoOffice's old "Save" menu. To save as a new file, you can still use the File :: Save As menu like in previous versions of NeoOffice.
The only difference in the "Save a Version" menu from the old "Save" menu is that with Lion, Mac OS X will keep a copy of the document that was overwritten. You can view a preview or restore the overwritten copy of your document that Mac OS X keeps by clicking on the name of your document in the document's titlebar. In the menu that appears, select the Browse All Versions menu item.
Also, you can turn off these menu changes by checking the NeoOffice :: Disable Mac OS X Versions menu.

When I do this the document window is minimized. Nothing else happens.

I can find no such option. These is an option called "Disable Mac OSX Services Menu" but that doesn't seem to have any effect on saving or displaying files. A support tech at Mac says that clicking on "Recover versions" will bring up the TimeLin-like window for versions, but I don't see that either. |

Which version of NeoOffice are you using?
You posted in the NeoOffice Support forum (which is for NeoOffice 3.1.2 and 3.2), but, to my understanding, Versions support is only in 3.2.1 Beta (for which the NeoOffice Beta Support forum is the most appropriate place to seek support).

I'm running NeoOffice 3.2.patch 5. (I tend not to get involved in betas because I'm not competent to cope when bugs turn up.)
The new-features pages for OSX Lion take it for granted that every program can use the features described there. Obviously not the case. A tech at Apple had to put me on hold for a while to find out how to access the versions display, which is incorrectly labeled in Apple's own documentation, so the learning curve is not single tailed.

I was confused. Because you asked about the new "Save a Version" menu, I wrongly assumed that you were running I made the assumption that you were using NeoOffice 3.2.1 Beta.

Correct. The Versions, Full-Screen, and Resume features must be implemented by each application. Since implementing these features was not a simple task and required changing a lot of NeoOffice code, we put these 3 new features in a Beta release first.
Most likely, we will release NeoOffice 3.2.1 with these new features in September 2011.

Although you may not be ready to try NeoOffice 3.2.1 Beta, here are some steps for you or anyone that may want to try out NeoOffice 3.2.1 Beta but use NeoOffice 3.2 for their important documents:
1. In the Finder, go to the /Applications folder and rename the NeoOffice application. Renaming the application will prevent overwriting of the application if you install NeoOffice 3.2.1 Beta.
2. Download and install NeoOffice 3.2.1 Beta.
3. Launch the applicable version of NeoOffice by dragging a file to or double-clicking on the applicable NeoOffice icon in the Finder.
With the above steps, the can do real work in NeoOffice 3.2 and then experiment with NeoOffice 3.2.1 Beta.
