I received an email, detected as spam by Mail.app, with this subject :

Just another porn site ad.

Craphole spam bots. That frigging sucks.

I'll make it a priority to go through the PHP code and remove the public "mailto" links or something. I doubt they'd obey changes to robots.txt.

Never thought this server would be targeted by spam harvesters...apologies to anyone targeted, even though I'm not the sleazy spammer Sad

The SMTP server serving up the trinity.neooffice.org e-mail is locked down to not allow relays, so please let me know if spam seems to be originating directly from the server itself as it would be a sign someone hacked the server (or is spoofing e-mail address).

OK, I think I commented out all of the places that have mailto links. The ones I could find after looking were the "e-mail" link at the bottom of posts, and the ones in user profiles.

If anyone finds other places on the site where e-mail addresses are still exposed, let me know so I can get rid of them too. I hate how spam has really wrecked the medium and utility of e-mail. My mail accounts get probably around 96% of their mail as spam, and my spam filters (both mental and programs) are so aggressive that a lot of real messages get dropped too.

Another tip if you're worried...

There does seem to be an option to enter a faux e-mail address for the system too. Click on the "Your Account" link on the left, then go to "Your Info", and you'll see a line for "Fake e-mail".

Theoretically the fake e-mail is the one that should be used in any pages that continue to display e-mail lines. Unfortunately the Nuke system doesn't seem to use an empty entry to indicate no publicly visible e-mail like the code seems to read at quick glance. So while I think the system should no longer disclose e-mail addresses of any kind, you may want to fill that in with some garbage just in case.
