I got "could not lauch openoffice" error when I tried to lauch openoffice. No detail available.I'm using tiger with X11 1.1 Xfree86 version 4.4.0.

Just one question: Which version of OpenOffice are you trying to run and where did you get it?

I forgot to ask which version of MacOSX are you trying to run on? If it is Tiger, you may not be able to run this version.

Ed's OOo builds run on 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4; ooo112_osx_final.dmg is his.
Is the error coming from Start OpenOffice.org or are you trying to launch OOo manually?

After installing Tiger over MacOS 10.2.8, I clicked on "Start OpenOffice.org" and was requested to choose "X11" from the proffered "Applications" window. After choosing, everything functioned normally, as previously.

Have you checked the documentation for Start OpenOffice.org? (I think it's in the Documentation folder inside the OOo folder) I don't recognize the error off-hand, but Terry has some fairly extensive documentation for Start OpenOffice.org....
