I have a new panther box. I just downloaded ooo 1.0.3 x11 and when I
run the installer, it immediately quits. The console reveals a java
exception. I did a search of the forum and didn't find any obvious
solution:

[JavaAppLauncher Error] FindClass() failed for class apple/launcher/LaunchRunner:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no launcher in java.library.path
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java:1344)
at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Runtime.java:744)
at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(System.java:815)
at apple.launcher.LaunchRunner.<clinit>(LaunchRunner.java:22)
[JavaAppLauncher Error] CallStaticVoidMethod() threw an exception
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: apple.launcher.LaunchRunner
at apple.launcher.JavaApplicationLauncher.launch(JavaApplicationLauncher.java:52)

There is a similar query on the OooDocs.org site:

http://www.ooodocs.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1111&sid=a747eb2ffe471f1a76de89962b84c525

You say a "new box" and there have been some java problems with upgrading to Panther so these may not be for you - but there may be a fix for you here:

http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031028151229265

seems to be a Panther/java issue rather than Ooo.

I actually haven't had any issues with running the installer on a "Clean Install" of Panther. I remember reading that there may be Java issues if you install Panther as an "Upgrade" to a 10.2.x system on which Java 1.4.1 was already installed.

Did you upgrade or do a clean install?
