I recently downloaded the beta (1.9.125) from

ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/MacOSX/

I downloaded the Panther build, and installed it on several machines (a G3 iBook, a G3 iMac and a G4 iMac, all running OS 10.3.9). Installation went fine, and the program launched and worked just fine using Start Openoffice.org.

When I installed the same program on another G3 iBook, also running OS 10.3.9, the installation went fine. But when I tried to launch the program, Start Openoffice.org gave me the following error message:

Could not launch OpenOffice.org.

Could not get Canonical Locale Identifier from AppleLanguages value!
Could not get Canonical Locale Identifier from AppleLanguages value!
/Applications/openoffice.org1.9.125/program/soffice: line 245: 662 Bus error "$sd_prog/$sd_binary" "$@"

I tried repairing permissions, zapping pram, resetting defaults in firmware, etc. I even tried re-installing 10.3.9 combo update. All to no avail!

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Any chance the iBook was originally running Mac OS X ≥ 10.1? Apple used different language syntax in those versions ("English" instead of ISO stuff like "en" and "en_US") and upgrading didn't modify them when Apple got with the program in 10.2....

If so, I *think* this can be fixed by unchecking your primary language(s) in the International pane of the System Prefs, quitting the System Prefs, relaunching it and then re-adding your primary languages.
