I have successfully downloaded OO - OpenOffice. Starting OO by doubleclicking Start OpenOffice.org results in a Window questioning "where is your preferred X Window server?" and giving a list of applications to choose from.
What application shall i choose?

Hi,
If you search through the topics in this forum, you will get several detailed hints, which depend on what version of OSX you are using. For 10.3 (Panther) and 10.4 (Tiger), the easiest option is to use Apple's X11. This is not installed by default when you install OSX, but an installer for it is on your system CD's (CD3 for Panther) or DVD.

Alternatively, if you have no other use for X11 and want a more Mac-like experience, use NeoOffice/J instead - the link is in the sidebar.

Unfortunately, there are features available in OpenOffice 2.0 for X11 that are not available (yet) in NeoOffice. Thus, you have to install X11 (and I recommend using Apple's badly broken X11) in order to use OOo 2.0. Don't worry, Patrick and Ed are looking into a version of NeoOffice based on OOo 2.0, but they have to get what they are currently working on finished and a stable version of OOo 2.0 for MacOSX/X11 has yet to be released.

The original poster was trying OOo 1.1.2, so Neo/J is already a more advanced version.

But--and we've had this debate before down in the Neo Development forum--aside from OpenDocument support, there are not many things in 2.0 that the *average* user would use that aren't already in 1.1.x.
