With OO v2.0 on OSX 10.4.3 I can open/save to local partitions. If I try to open/save to a remote mounted partition then there is an error "general input/output error while accessing /Volumes/Remote drive etc...". I can move files from the remote partition to the desktop and open/save from there so it does not seem to be a mount problem. I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this?

While I have not investigated you case, there is a general problem with OOo 2.0 on remote volumes. You can find more information in the bug reporting system over at OpenOffice.org. There is a patch, but it has not been integrated into a release yet. I hope this will eventually solve the problem.

So, for the moment you are faced with the drawbacks of using beta software (never mind that it is called a Release Candidate). Some features of OOo 2.0 on the Mac are not working and you will have to wait for new versions to come out. See OpenOffice.org if you wish to contribute to their bug fixing process.

FWIW, NeoOffice will allow you to save on remote volumes, in case you need a free office suite that does so. It has most of the features that OOo 2.0 has.

Good luck,
Oscar
