Is it possible to install OOffice with OSX 10.2.8.
On Apple site, the latest X11 is only available for Panther release (10.3)
How can I install OOfiice and which release of X11 is needed.

Thanks

the short answer is yes, OO.o will install on 10.2.8 (that is what i am running right this very moment)

the longer answer is that the Jaquar versions of X11 aren't posted on the Apple X11 page anymore (they may be availible deeper in the site, I haven't had time to look). Xdarwin will work, it just doesn't look as pretty.

If you're trying to install, the oo103darwingm.dmg installer contains everything you need. Just launch it, and it'll put X11 and everything on your system.

The most 'aquaish' option for XFree86 is OroborOSX. That's also included in the ooo103darwingm.dmg installer Smile

It is good to know that Apple X11 betas for 10.2.x have been pulled though...it now appears that XFree86 will be the only option on 10.2.

Don't know if it still works or if you still need it, but I was lucky here:

PostPosted: Wed Dec 10, 2003 5:26 pm    Post subject: OOo_1.1.0_031006 vs 1.0.3

I saw a new version announcement on the Apple Downloads page for
OpenOffice. Going to the mirrors, I see these files:

OOo_1.1.0_031006_MacOSX_install_en.tar.gz
ooo103darwingm.dmg.gz
ooo103l18ngm.dmg.gz
ooo11rc3_macosx_developer.tar.gz

The porting page file at
http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/ooo-osx_downloads.html#applex

isn't quite up to date, I guess. Can someone comment on which is what
here? My guesses so far from reading:

ooo103darwingm.dmg.gz : Mac OS X specific build of OpenOffice v1.03
- this is the copy described on the porting page, that includes
the InstallAnywhere app, StartOpenOffice.app, etc

OOo_1.1.0_031006_MacOSX_install_en.tar.gz
- a snapshot? pre-alpha build? alpha? of OpenOffice v1.1 for OS X
- is it possible to install v1.03 and then upgrade using this?
- if so, do we do that by choosing the "repair" option?
- it would be really helpful if there was an INSTALL file here - it's
just a tarball with no information about what one is supposed
to *do* with it after unpacking. i think i finally figured out that
i'm supposed to run the 'setup' script from an X11 term window.
(the window that script creates is huge, btw - bigger than my
desktop, and the text in the popup alert window doesn't display
if it was off-screen when it opened.)

ooo103l18ngm.dmg.gz: dictionary file?
- this is unnecessary if we install using the v1.03 installer app
and want to use US English?

ooo11rc3_macosx_developer.tar.gz : Not a clue Smile

This sucks ass. I asked the dude in charge of the mirror site to change the naming a while ago. Here we go:

ooo103darwingm.dmg -
This is the "Gold Master" release...based off of 1.0.3. This has the InstallAnywhere installer that will make sure OOo and all of its dependent components are installed properly. Most all of the support questions and workarounds in this forum are currently referencing ooo103darwingm.dmb.

ooo103l18ngm.dmg
This is the "Localizer". It translates the interface of OOo 1.0.3 into foreign languages and installs dictionaries for that language.

OOo_1.1.0_031006_MacOSX_install_en.tar.gz
This is a "developer build" (e.g. alpha) of OOo 1.1 X11 for MacOS X. It has an X11 based installer and doesn't do the additional dependency checking for the auxiliary tools required by OOo X11 MacOS X. Reports are that for common usage it's stable, but it's still not feature complete. I've been working on getting an OS X native installer...the hangup has been multiuser support and configuration, which changed dramatically between 1.0.x and 1.1. This devleoper build was contributed by Riccardo and is also available in multiple languages.

ooo11rc3_macosx_developer.tar.gz
This is a "Pre-Alpha" build of 1.1RC3 for OS X from Dan. I submitted a request to have this purged from the mirrors over two months ago. If you're interested in 1.1, look at the "developer build" above instead.
