This should be an easy one, but it's late and I'm not sure what
to do next.

I've downloaded OOo_1.1.0_031006_MacOSX_install_en.tar.gz
from one of the mirrors. I unzipped and untared it and found a
install script to run down in the 01/normal directory.
When i run the install script I get the messages below.

Installation starting, please be patient ...
dyld: ./setup can't open library: /usr/local/lib/libdl.dylib (No such file o r directory, errno = 2)
./install: line 139: 687 Trace/BPT trap ./setup -v -nogui -r:${TMPFILE}

I checked and certainly there is no libdl.dylib on my system that
I could find. Do I need to download libdl.dylib from somewhere
or sym link some other file to /usr/local/lib/libdl.dylib
One other piece of info. The /usr/local directory is empty.
I'm running Mac OS 10.2.8 and XFree86 Version 4.2.1

OK, if you grabbed 1.1.x you grabbed the alpha version. Its installer isn't Mac OS X "native"...in the sense that the 1.1.x. alpha installer only includes OOo proper. To actually use OOo 1.1.x on an OS X box you'll need to install the following applications manually:

    1) XFree86 or Apple X11 (seems like you've got one of them already)
    2) ESP Ghostscript 7.05 or higher
    3) Fondu
    4) Start OpenOffice.org
    5) dlcompat
    6) freetype 1.3 or higher (should be included with Apple X11)

And you'll need to manually set up some of the configuration links (e.g. mapping "http" to /usr/bin/open in the helper apps) and manually convert the OS X fonts.

The GM 1.0.3 installer happily includes all of these additional programs and fixes settings for 1.0.3. At this time the X11 based 1.1.x installer doesn't automatically install any of these other required applications...and it does in fact require dlcompat to be installed before it will even launch Sad

Silly me...you can find binary dlcompat packages at:

http://www.osxgnu.org/

there's one version for 10.1 and a second for 10.2. Be sure you get the right one for your box (the OOo 103GM installer chooses automatically).
