I'd been having trouble starting OOo but it looks like X11 was the one not working appropiately. You see, when I double click on OOo it doesn't launch, I have to click on the X icon on the dock and it then opens up the default writer. never the less the background looks grey and if I quit the application, the whole screen remains grey. yesterday I had to restart my computer because I couldn't get out of that screen, today I was able to get out of it through exposee! Thank God I had configured the corners to activate exposee that way it brings up all my active applications...But this is not normal behavior is it? Perhaps I should reinstall X11? I had reinstalled OOo by just sending it to trash can, hope that is the correct way!

A word of advice would be appreciated!

it sounds like your X11 preferences are incorrect. you should run X11 'rootless' you can find this under the preferences under the X11 menu.

Thank you very much Jake,
that was rather simple to fix....I even at first restarted my computer because I couldn't get out of that grey screen, later used exposee corner windows..but know it works like the first day..
wish I could get my MS access reading problem fixed so I can start enjoying OOo to the fullest!
Thanks again,
c.o.
