G. Roderick:

Update on this issue:

I dug out my WindowsXP machine and installed OpenOffice.org 2.0.3. No
problems opening the downloaded file. This appears to be another bug
with Base on the Mac. I have asked that the issue be reassigned to the
Mac OS X porting team.

Well, a lack of drivers will definitely cause files to not be openable. Anything that requires the MS ODBC bridges won't work for sure, including Access files.

Another option is to try to find a JDBC driver that can communicate to the database in which you're interested. There are several Type IV drivers (pure Java) that can be used for various databases, but most of them are commercial.

OK. After searching the users@openoffice.org mailing list, I found the following post:

Quote:
I an a defense attorney in Phoenix. The records for all the DUI breath
machines are available online as a Microsoft Access file at
http://phoenix.gov/phxpros.html. You click on interactive disclosure
center, then click on COBRA data download. then click on COBRA 8000 data
records. I save it to the desktop because otherwise it opens it in Excel
(b/c that is what I was doing before I downloaded BASE). I only downloaded
BASE; I don't need the rest. I open the file from the desktop, but nothing
appears in the window. If I click on table, I get an error message saying
that I have to install a JRE and restart openoffice. What does this mean in
English? I want to look at the data. Why isn't it point and click, like it
would be if I designed it?

I downloaded the DATA8000.DBF file and I had no troubles opening it with NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta 3.

right Ed.
a ODCB driver that works with MS Access on a MAC is the Actual ODBC driver. a commercial one, but it works.
hopefully the Migration Toolkit for the MAC will come out soon. the windows version does the job. perhaps we have to be a little patience Wink
