Nope. I don't have space to host multiple versions of NeoOffice/J.
So this gives me a good opportunity to make a plug for more testers.
It would seem to me that if you were installing the test patches that I had posted (almost weekly) for NeoJ 0.8.1, you would have seen this crashing before NeoJ 0.8.2 was shipped.
The idea behind open source is that the more people who help develop and test it, the better its quality will be. I have been noticing that fewer and fewer bugs are filed against my test patches while, at the same time, the number of bugs filed after I post a new release keeps growing.
This makes me think that more and more people are assuming that someone else is testing the code when, in reality, it is probably just me and one or two other people.
So, if you want to see NeoJ bugs fixed and its releases improve, please help by filing bugs with real data that will help me or any developer fix the problem. I designed NeoJ so thta I can post patches very quickly and easily.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried opening one of the non-calculating dox in OOo and was astonished to see the same behavior...then, I noticed that each numeric field was preceded by a single quotation mark. I edited them all out, and as I did so, the calculation began working.
I saved the doc in OOo and re-opened it in 0.8.2, and it looked fine. I hadn't noticed the ' in 0.8.2, nor can I account for how it got there. But 0.8.2 seems now to be working. I will see if I can reproduce the problem.

Um, sorry, I have to confess I didn't realize there were patches; I'll try to keep up with them henceforth.
Regarding the crash problem, it doesn't seem to have been consistent, since I did get it going the first time, and then after it crashed a couple of days later, I fixed permissions and re-downloaded, and at this point it seems to be working.
If there's a bug here, as opposed to a system problem, then it's a very elusive and not-very-obvious bug. Will keep an eye out and try to help track it down, but it may well be unrelated to 0.8.2--hard to tell.
In any case, thank you again for all your efforts in providing us with great software. I'm primarily a Mac end user, and greatly prefer using NeoOffice/J over OOo. It keeps astonishing me (as for example when I double-clicked an e-mail-attached .ppt doc--I didn't know what it was, but NeoOffice/J did!). Cheers, _________________ Gib Henry

I still would like to know what exactly you did when you "fixed permissions". Can you list the steps you did for me?

Look and see if you have a "soffice.bin.crash.log" file in the following directory. If you do, can you open a bug and attach the log?
Library/Logs/CrashReporter
If there is no such file, then the next time that NeoJ crashes, look for the above file immediately after the crash.

I ran Yasu to repair permissions (quicker than Disk Utility), then restarted. Unfortunately, Yasu doesn't display what it fixed.
Meanwhile, your suggestion of renaming the ~/Library/NeoOfficeJ folder did indeed fix the display/calculation problems! Cheers, _________________ Gib Henry
