Have not be able to get OpenOffice to start. After some effort deleted Start OpenOffice and reinstalled. Now get the following message:

Could not launch OpenOffice.org

/Users/Wilbur/Library/Preferences/OpenOffice.org1.0.3/program/swriter:line 7:/Users/Wilbur/Library/Preferences/OpenOffice.org1.0.3/program/soffice:
Permission denied
/Users/Wilbur/Library/Preferences/OpenOffice.org1.0.3/program/swriter:line 7:exec:/Users/Wilbur/Library/Preferences/OpenOffice.org1.0.3/program/soffice: cannot execute:
Inknown error: 0

Before this not response from Start OpenOffice but got similar messages, i.e. permission denied when starting from xterm.

My inclination at this point is uninstall and do another download. In other words start over.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for you help and assistance.

"Start OpenOffice.org" is not the problem here Wink

This seems to be the crux of your problem. How did you install OOo 1.0.3? Is "Wilbur" an Admin user (default)? Did you install as a different user?

You might want to use Disk Utility to Verify Permissions on your boot volume, before going any further.

Hmm...do you know if when you installed OS X you installed the "BSD Subsystem"? If the permissions on the account are OK, the second possible cause of error in the soffice script itself is that there's a missing commadn line executable or shell that isnt' installed on your system. basename used to be the catchall...if you didn't have a /usr/bin/basename executable on your computer then you didn't have the BSD Subsystem installed, and as a result OOo can't run.

103GM's installer doesn't check for the valid existance of a BSD Subsystem, but 11x whatever will.
