I am interested in OO, but would like to use a version that runs under OSX without the copmlication and "add-on" of X11. I don't have to use X11 for anything else. Is a version that works on just old OSX in the works?
The real answer to your question is a complex one, but the short answer is "Check out NeoOffice/J" http://www.neooffice.org/java/.
Lots of us here use it for our daily tasks, and its integration with OS X is far superior to the X11 version. At the moment NeoJ is based on OOo 1.0.3, but unless you need OOo 1.1.x-specific features like RTL text, it'll be fine. If you do need those features, the wait won't be too long; Patrick Luby, the NeoJ developer, posted in the NeoJ Development forum here that the first alpha of 1.1-based NeoJ is coming in the next few weeks.
