PostPosted: Thu Sep 02, 2004 2:27 pm    Post subject: Where is the program?

I downloaded OpenOffice1.1.2 this week so that I could see how good it was compared with the commercial stuff.

I'm running on a dual-processor G4 with 1Gb of memory and 60 Gb of disc, using OS 10.2.8

I tried using Start OpenOffice.org and it came back to say it couldn't find the program. I scanned through the list in the box it produced, but anything that looked as if it could be the program was greyed out!

Yes, I'm an admin user - I'm the only user of this system.

I also tried starting OpenOffice by hand but by the time I'd set the DISPLAY enviroment variable XDarwin had crashed. Any ideas what might have caused that?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

If you haven't already done so, you might want to read the documentation for "Start OpenOffice.org" in the Documentation folder.

It is possible that the prompt to locate the "program" is misleading - I think I had problems with a longer more descriptive prompt, so I probably had to shorten the prompt.

Assuming the prompt/search for a program you are referring to is the OpenOffice.org installation, then in the file/folder selection dialog navigate to and select the OpenOffice.org installation folder (e.g. /Applications/OpenOffice.org1.1.2) - i.e. it is looking for the folder, not any particular file.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Terry.

That got me a bit further - as far as the splash screen! Then everything seemed to fall over.

I have a problem, I think, with XDarwin crashing on my machine which may be what is causing this. I'll have to look into that.

Anyway, thanks again.
