Hi,

the DNS-name anoncvs.neooffice.org can't be resolved. Is this a DNS-problem or is the CVS for NeoOffice/J moved to another server?

I have noticed this from time to time during the last week. I invoke cvs and after a minute or so I get the "cannot resolve anoncvs.neooffice.org" error.

When this happens, I have found that invoking "ping anoncvs.neooffice.org" seems to get DNS to resolve the host name. Then I rerun cvs and everything works. Don't know why this works, but give it a try.

Hi Patrick,

a ping doesn't work, too.

Thomas,

Try using the IP address (:pserver:anoncvs@206.72.79.241:/cvs) instead of anoncvs.neooffice.org. I can ping the server with no problem so the problem is probably an incomplete DNS server somewhere.

That's funny...the DNS has never been down during that time to my knowledge, although it may be unresponsive if the server is under heavy loads (also hasn't happened to my knowledge).

If you get it again, can you try running "nslookup anoncvs.neooffice.org"? I'll try checking from a different network on Monday to see if it's a configuration issue with the DNS here (on my network).

Hi Ed,

here it is:

[SchlesisPowerbook:~/SW-Entwicklung/NeoJ] thomas% nslookup anoncvs.neooffice.org
Server: res1.netcologne.de
Address: 194.8.194.60

*** res1.netcologne.de can't find anoncvs.neooffice.org: Non-existent host/domain

Strange...can you try the following:

nslookup primary.dashboardbuddha.com

That second one should map to the dns server (206.72.79.240).

Hi Ed,

the 2nd nslookup works:

[SchlesisPowerbook:~/SW-Entwicklung/NeoJ] thomas% nslookup primary.dashboardbuddha.com
Server: res1.netcologne.de
Address: 194.8.194.60

The anoncvs-server is already unresolvable.

Bizarre. They're both on the same DNS, but it's conceivable that one of them may be cached by your local DNS and anoncvs isn't...I verified with network solutions that neooffice.org is still valid...it had been up for renewal in Sept., and I had recently renewed it, so I don't think that's the issue.

I'll check more when I get to a separate network Smile Sorry about these DNS issues...this is the first I've heard of them. I don't think the DNS server I'm using (QuickDNS) is subject to any security holes but will go check.
