After installing OpenOffice (the X11 version) and being led here for helpful advice, and noticing that every question, sooner or later, is answered by "try NeoOffice/J," I did. I like it, it's better.

But now I've got these two copies of OpenOffice taking up space! How do I uninstall the X11 one? There are no uninstall instructions that I can find (although the installation instructions *talk* about uninstalling prior versions, they don't say how to *do* it).

i did find OpenOffice.org1.1.2/UninstallerData/Uninstall OpenOffice.org, but it fails, saying "The uninstallation could not complete due to an error." A remarkably unhelpful message. In console I see much blather, whose post pertinent snippet is probably:

@@@@ Set jreHomeDir to /Applications/OpenOffice.org1.1.2/jre
RepositoryManager: Local repository location is: /Applications/OpenOffice.org1.1.2/UninstallerData/Uninstall OpenOffice.org.app/Contents/Resources/Uninstall OpenOffice.org.app/Contents/Resources/Java/.com.zerog.registry.xml
ZeroGa0: Unable to load product from registry. Product ID: c6d10345-1ec3-11b2-a7ff-c886f86d80e3

What's *that* all about? "Registry"?

Even though it's not exactly the same, like all good Mac programs, OOo for X11 can be uninstalled by dragging to the Trash Smile The "OpenOffice.org1.1.2" folder in your Applications folder, and the "OpenOffice.org1.1.2" folder in your user's ~/Library/Preferences/ folder.

I thought that there was a load of other unix underpinning stuff that Ooo installed in usr/bin and so on during the installation, like fondu etc. - or does all of that live in the OpenOffice1.1.2 folder somewhere?

If it does live elsewhere, it's quite a job to remove manually, I'm guessing - which is what the Uninstall app is for, if it worked...

fondu is all of two files--the app and a man page--in /usr/local. dlcompat doesn't get installed on 10.3. Those are the only two "external" things I can think of (unless one installed XDarwin or that Obo...OSX one), but I was never able to get an install log, so I'm not positive. All of the externals were installed as packages, IIRC, so something like this should be able to uninstall them with ease.

For not being a "normal" Mac app, OOo really is remarkably like one in the uninstallation area Smile
