What do I do if the .dmg fails to mount? It is telling me that "Device not configured." Now what?
So I can't get version 2.2.2 for PowerPC. I have tried downloading it several times. It is always the same story.

Did you check that the size of the downloaded file is the same as the size listed on the web page? You can see the size of the file by Control-clicking on the file and selecting the Get Info option from the popup menu that appears.

If they size of the downloaded file does not match, then your download is failing before you have received the entire file. You can complete an incomplete download by following the directions for using cURL in the "Problems?" section on the page that you downloaded the file from.

If size the downloaded file matches the size listed on the website, then try Control-clicking on the file and selecting Open With :: Disk Utility from the popup menu that appears. This should open the .dmg file.

I took your advice and the size of the download matches exactly. So it is completely downloaded. I am not exactly sure how Disk Utility was supposed to work as you meant, but I put the disk image that was on my desk top on the sidebar under my various drives and selected it. Then I asked DU to verify it. It did this. It told me that it was "not mounted" but I was not allowed to mount it, the mount command was greyed out. So I deleted it from the list and put it back, at which point it let me use the mount command. (Go figure.) It tried to mount it but was unable to do so, telling me this: "Unable to attach 'NeoOffice-2.2.2-PowerPC.dmg' - Device not configured. The only option was to click ok.

So Now What? javascript:emoticon('Rolling Eyes')

I found this webpage that describes the fix for the "Device not configured" error. Basically, they found that you need to run Disk Utilities application's Repair Disk function on your main volume is what is needed to get opening of .dmg files working again.

Can you try rebooting from your Mac OS X installation disk? The Mac OS X installer will run when you do this but don't be alarmed by this. Just proceed through the installer until you see a regular Mac OS X menubar. When you see that, select the Disk Utility menu item and that will run Disk Utility where "Repair Disk" will be enabled. After you finish with Disk Utility, quit it, cancel the Mac OS X installer, and reboot from your main hard drive.

After doing these steps, can you open the .dmg file?
