Hi - I often find myself scribbling down excessive amounts of ideas, revisions, formulations, etc. when writing a paper. These ideas which are part of my creative process, must be be either A) written down on in a separate document - dangerous because it can be lost, deleted, etc. - or B) written into the document I am writing - this means that either I am scrolling constantly to the bottom of the document and back to write down my ideas, or I have to interrupt the flow of the paper and write them wherever I am, which becomes extraordinarily annoying as they build up.
Solution: a small, pop up "scratch pad" which is saved with the document so it is never lost. It can be opened and closed as needed and remains separate from the main text thereby avoiding clutter and confusion. As a friend pointed out, it may be also nice to have the ability to link to the scratch pad, say from selected words. This way, if there is more you might want to say, or a different direction to go at a certain point in the paper, you can link to the ideas using a key word in the phrase. Clicking on the word opens the scratch pad and reveals the additional / alternate ideas.
Many thanks for your consideration.
