I know there is a French Program for entering Math Equations, but MathType is so much easier. Is there a plan to add MathType compatibility to NeoOffice?? Shocked

There's a long thread with discussion of MathType here, including some responses from a Design Sciences employee. It sounds like parts of MathType would have to be rewritten as an UNO component, or that support would have to be added to NeoOffice for a particular MathType function, both of which would require significant investment of resources.

Smokey's link is a good one. It is also worth noting that Microsoft Office's Equation Editor is actually a variation of MathType that is licensed from Design Sciences. In other words, Microsoft basically paid Design Sciences a bunch of money to bundle MathType with Office.

We are donation funded so we aren't going to pay a bunch of money to bundle MathType with NeoOffice. So, if you are really looking for MathType, you really need to either buy Microsoft Office or MathType. There really is no way around that.

Just to be clear, the Equation Editor we license to Microsoft and other companies is based on MathType but MathType has much more functionality.

I should also like to point out that the work that might be done to allow MathType to work with NeoOffice would not be for MathType only. The interfaces involved could be used to provide a general purpose embedded object editing facility. People would be free to create editors for all kinds of things, even another equation editor.
