PostPosted: Thu Oct 28, 2004 5:31 pm    Post subject: Openoffice crashed during initialization

I installed X11R6 and Openoffice 1.1.2 in my new ibook. But it crashed when I tried to bring it up. X11 was installed under /usr/X11R6. Openoffice was installed under /Applications/OpenOffice.org1.1.2/.

Following is my steps to re-create the problem:

1. Start X server and xterm.
2. cd /Applications/OpenOffice.org1.1.2/program
3. sh soffice

I got Bus error on xterm.

Following is the header part of the crash log. Can anyone help me? Please email me at ylu123@gmail.com for the full crash log.

Which version of X11 did you install? Note that versions of XFree86 prior to 4.3 are really not compatible with 10.3. If xterm is giving you bus errors, then you've got some X11 incompatibilities that will affect all X11 apps, even OOo.

I downloaded X11 from www.apple.com. The link says "Download X11 for Mac OS X Panther".

The file is X11User.dmg. After install with all default options, it says X11R6.

Wrf. If Apple X11 is crashing on you, then you're definitely in a bona fide jam. I've never experienced dilemmas with Apple X11 on 10.3 before. Your best resource may be trying to search or post to the X11 users list Apple hosts:

http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/x11-users

Your problem strikes me as being a bit more low-level then OOo if xterm is goofing up and you're having difficulties with the input method as indicated in the crashlog Sad
