I think, this isn't a special problem of NeoOffice/J. OS X is very hungry of RAM. IMHO Apple should sell its machines with at least 512MB RAM.

I do not think so. I have just opened photoshop elements and neooffice:

soffice.bi 1.6% 0:09.04 16 248 803 37.8M 73.0M 72.1M 873M
Photoshop 1.5% 0:29.35 1 76 678 32.3M 41.4M 50.7M 234M

Opening some documents:
soffice.bi 23.9% 1:03.97 16 269 1258 97.4M+ 97.0M 134M+ 976M
Photoshop 0.9% 0:43.43 5 98 1117 61.2M 47.8M 84.1M 282M

Usually neo (and the java machine) take a lot of VM and ram, more than photoshop. I can use photoshop on a standard 256Mb macintosh, not neooffice.
Hei, i love neo, but it is a hungry big duck Wink

Well, I have to agree that 512MB is a good starting point, especially if you use Mozilla as well, which is a lot worse (i.e. 1.7 has a big fat resource leak). But then again I tend to have NeoOffice, Mozilla, Acrobat, iTunes and usually something else open at the same time. Let's just say I have 640MB and need most of it.

Early reports about Java 5 seem to be promising in speed at least but it isn't there for the Mac yet. (See also at another recent thread: http://trinity.neooffice.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=854&highlight=).

Best wishes,
Oscar
