Hi folk !

NeoOffice/J is very great ! I'have recenty trashed M$Office and replaced it by neoOffice/J Wink

But there is a little problem with the font display. Here is a screenshot of the problem : http://fyma.fyma.ucl.ac.be/~piroux/doc/NeoOffice.pdf
As you can see, some words have (as "avec") an extra space between two characters... Is it a problem from NeoOffice or from OOo ?

Which release and/or patch were you using? Patrick's been fixing up a lot of font spacing issues recently and the layout in times new roman looks perfect on my machine (HEAD). You may want to try patch-5 and see if it cleans up your layout issues.

If you have a good test document, feel free to post it into the NeoOffice Bugzilla:

http://bugzilla.neooffice.org

If you need help figuring out how to file an issue for the spacing or the like let me know.

Hi !

I'm using of course the latest release with the patch-5.
I have made some tests :
http://fyma.fyma.ucl.ac.be/~piroux/NeoOffice2.pdf
http://fyma.fyma.ucl.ac.be/~piroux/NeoOffice3.pdf
It seems that the problem occurs when we have a document zoom near 100% but not exactly 100%, for example 108%.
Thus it is not really a problem since adjusting the zoom to a certain value gives a good result...

Thanks for the good work,

OK, though my eyes are tired I do think I see the difference now. I was trying only at 100 & 200 % zooms. Can you go ahead and file an issue in Bugzilla on this?

I actually suspect that this may be something we can't address, however, due to limitations in OOo. If I recall correctly (but may be wrong, am very sleepy) OOo is using integer arithmetic for font layout and scaling. If that is the case, then that might account for the spacing errors due to integer rounding.

That of course might be a line of BS, but it wouldn't surprise me.
