Hi everyone,

I am in the final year of my Ph.D. and the workload and stress levels are slowly increasing. My contract has six months left and there is a ton of work to do. In fact, it is now pretty certain that the thesis will not be finished by May. In short, it's crunch time.

Because of this, I will not be as able to help out as much as I used to, or as much I would like to. I have to ensure that I spend enough time away from a computer to keep up my physical health, and also that the number of things I feel responsible for is within manageable levels so as to retain my ability to focus.

I keep up with the forum as best I can, but bug reporting and other behind-the-scenes work will drop off until summer. I can still translate the occasional neoffice.org page to Dutch, but that is about as far as my commitment stretches for now. I may occasionally have time, but I cannot really plan on it. I'd appreciate being kept in the loop on stuff, but I can't promise to act on anything coming my way.

I hope you understand, and I hope to get back soon.

best wishes,
Oscar

Makes sense to me. I am constantly prioritizing like this and IMHO it really is necessary to focus your energies on the top one, two, or three things that need attending to. It is so easy to get pulled in fifty different directions and when that has happened to me, it can be overwhelming. FWIW, I have found that being up front and not committing to things I know won't do anyone any favors. I would just get worn out juggling too many tasks and complete none of them.

Take care and I hope you'll stop by the Trinity site when time allows,

Patrick

This is a good point. Congratulations on nearing the end of your Ph.D.

Ahhh! Ph.D. In what? Good luck! It is a bear indeed! I wrote my Ph.D. dissertation in 1 year of hell. 25 years of research! Argh!!!!

best wishes to you Oscar.

p.s. I stayed up 3 days at a time and lived on pots of coffee. struggling with cogent thoughts are tough and when you get thinks clicking you have to get that old diarrhea of the mind and let it flow, flow, flow...

Have a great Holidays!!!

Ehm, your descriptions are evocative, to say the least. I don't drink coffee, so I don't think I will be awake for 3 days straight, though I spent some 12 hours at the office yesterday. I have personally found it is important that I keep doing sports and such to avoid getting mentally stuck in the way that Patrick described.

My Ph.D. is on alternatives to diesel and petrol (that's gasoline for Americans). I am looking at Fischer-Tropsch fuels (GTL, CTl, BTL), hybrid cars and some of the effects and conditions of their uptake on a large scale.

Thanks everyone and best (season's) wishes,
Oscar

The key is to find your own path on your way to completion of the task! Interesting topic!!!! I would have never thought from knowing you from these forums.

Find your own groove. We all work in so many different ways! Best wishes to you.
