Some of you may have noticed that Trinity was displaying "read-only database" errors for logged in users for about 15 minutes today. While our forum software displayed an error, that was expected behavior as we switched our Trinity, Bugzilla, NeoWiki, and Early Access Program databases into read-only mode so that we could take a snapshot and copy their data to new databases on our new server: peggy.neooffice.org.

The database move was a success and we will be moving the web pages later today (www.neooffice.org's web pages have already been moved). As we move the web pages, you should see no additional downtime as we will continue running the web pages on our old servers for at least 24 hours so that the DNS changes have time to propagate to everyone's DNS servers.

The reason for this change is that we are decommissioning our two faithful little machines - bob.neooffice.org and sally.neooffice.org - for a new machine. Our new machine has much more memory and disk than the combined old machines have and, more importantly, the disk has RAID 1 mirroring so that if one disk fails, the machine will switch to the other mirrored disk seamlessly.

Please let us know if you see any new problems with the www.neooffice.org, Trinity, Bugzilla, or NeoWiki websites.

I was trying to fix URLs to Tow Gewecke's website on the Wiki:

https://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/Fr:Polices_Alternatives

But I got the following error:

NeoWiki wrote:
The database is currently locked to new entries and other modifications, probably for routine database maintenance, after which it will be back to normal.
The administrator who locked it offered this explanation: WARNING: The database has been locked for maintenance, so you will not be able to save your edits right now. You may wish to cut-n-paste the text into a text file and save it for later.

I found the problem and it is now fixed. I made a typo in configuration file and NeoWiki was pointing to the wrong database and, as a result, was using the read-only backup database.

Since my last post, I have replaced another one of our old servers - jane.neooffice.org - with a new server - joe.neooffice.org - and I took "jane" offline this morning.

Like the other move, the reason for this change is that our new machine has much more memory and disk than the old machine had and, more importantly, the disk has RAID 1 mirroring so that if one disk fails, the machine will switch to the other mirrored disk seamlessly.

The only production services that were running on "jane" and are now on "joe" are the main www.neooffice.org website, the test patches, and e-mail. If you notice anything wrong with these services, please let us know.

I never knew Bob, but Sally and Jane were very nice ladies.

Edit: I found that the link to the User Guide in the NeoWiki was pointing to the wrong server and I have update that link to match the link on this site.
