We originally created this forum back in April 2007 to support an experimental program called the New Features Program. The New Features Program a fundraising program that allowed users to make donations for a new feature that we could not fund from existing donations. Unfortunately, the program failed to fund any new features so the program was abondoned in July 2007.
We kept this forum open after the program was abondoned in case we decided to revive the program. However, since then we have seen many posts that are really a listing of new feature requests.
While posting of these lists causes no harm, the reality has been (and will most likely continue to be) that our donation levels, number of developers, and number of support volunteers is just enough for our current scope of project to keeping a native version of OpenOffice.org running on Mac OS X and providing high quality, rapid support for our software.
Funding even a small portion of the new feature requests that have been posted in this forum would require an order of magnitude increase in donations, developers, and support volunteers. Unfortunately, nearly all of the posts in this forum have been from newly registered Trinity users and since they are new, most users are surprised to find that our scope is limited.
Clearly, by having this forum open, we have been sending the message to new users that we are soliciting ideas for new features while the message that we want to send is that if donations increased significantly, we would first try to fix some of the hundreds of OpenOffice.org bugs that we cannot currently fund.
Because of this, Ed, I, and Fran have found that responding to these posts can require a not so trivial amount of time which could be better spent on fixing bugs and answering support questions for other users. Hence, we have locked this forum.
