Hello,

I know this question may seem to appear too early, but it's important for us. We are working in Geneva (Switzerland) for public schools. In the PC side, they will probably install OpenOffice 3.1 (which may be out in 2 weeks) in their computer configurations in june, for use next year. In the Mac side, we have to decide if we continue with NeoOffice or we switch to OpenOffice. Do you think that there will be a NeoOffice 3.1 and if yes, when it will be accessible by everyone ? Our choice, NO or OO, may depend on this roadmap, because it's important that teachers and students have the same version (3.1) in both worlds.

At this time we are considering pursuing a bi-yearly update cycle. Due to the invasive changes within the OOo code, we do not expect to be using the 3.1 codebase in the near future until the extent of all of the modifications and stability of these modifications are known. We are going to be using the 3.0.x sourcebase for at least 6 months, perhaps longer.

In any case, NeoOffice is likely to lag one or two .versions behind OOo. It always has in the past.

So if you want version parity, NeoOffice is unlikely to be your cup of tea. Of course, OOo 3.1 and OOo 3.0 are not *that* different, but it depends entirely on the features you need.

Best wishes,
Oscar

Ok, thanks Ed for the answer.

The choice for keeping NO is difficult, we have a strong pressure to use the same office suite on all our computers, Windows, Linux, Mac OS.
