I can't find the thread in which yoxi described his series of name-related difficulties with Her Majesty's Government, but I was shown this tonight and immediately thought of yoxi (he's not alone, sort-of!) Wink

(Also, in case anyone has anything urgent for me, I am away today and the next few days, so I'll be checking here only sporadically.)

Smile Smile Smile

I just spent the weekend helping my friends launch a sculpture trail exhibition thing on Dartmoor (take a look if you're in the area between now and Sept. 27th) - and I also spent the weekend correcting people whom I had told to call me Padma (since "Padmavyuha" is way too much to ask of most people on first acquaintance) who then persisted in calling me Pablo.

¡me gusta!

I'm sanguine about the whole names thing now - I know there's a 99.9999% likelihood that whoever I'm dealing with is not in any way in control of the design of the database they're stuck using, so what's the point of berating? I just give people marks out of 10 on the phone for pronunciation Smile.

Back when my name (for a few years) was Gideon Spoonbill, I got a lovely junk mail letter addressed to Mrs G Deon Spoonville that began "Dear Mrs Deon Spoonville..." and tried to sell me elegant slinky black evening dresses. I declined.

I was also called Mr Spindle over the phone. And I have a friend whose surname is Sproxton, who received a letter beginning "Dear Mr Sproch Ombe..."

Keeps us laughing, keeps us laughing.
