The error messages quoted above appeared when I tried to enter a long comment. If the 512 character-limit is necessary, I suggest that entering more than 512 characters should not be possible at all instead of displaying an error message after the input.

Another annoyance in this context is that both the 'save as' and the 'comments' field are emptied upon display of the error message.

Can you take a look at this? Do we need to limit the maximum character length in the HTML or should we consider enlarging the comment field in the database?

In any case, it should be made clear to the user that there's is a limited. I assume that long comments are rare, however, if you enter a long comment, it's frustrating that you only learn after your input that your comment has been to long and therefore got completely deleted.

FYI: I have submitted bug 3560 for this issue. When there is a status change in the bug it will be reported in this forum topic.

TimT has fixed bug 3560. Now a warning appears when the comment length exceeds 512 characters and the comment and filename remain on screen. Please let us know if you see anything different.
