I think that I have found the cause of the silent crash and I have fixed the OpenOffice.org code that was causing the crash. Can you install the following test patch and tell us if my fix works for you?:

Intel:

PowerPC:

Thanks, Patrick, that seems to have fixed the problem. Now if I select all items and attempt to choose a font, any choice I make doesn't stick - which seems logical given that some of the items don't have a font attribute.

When I attempt to select everything and then deselect the lines, it does all feel a bit flaky, but that may be memory limitations on my machine. I think I probably just need to go through and adjust font information individually.

I don't think your machine is the problem. Instead, I think the Sun Report Builder code is quite flaky. If I knew then what I know now, I would have never included the Sun Report Builder in NeoOffice. But sadly, once you create a report with the Sun Report Builder, the regular report builder cannot open it. Sad

FYI. The fix has been included in the NeoOffice 3.0.1 release. This release can be downloaded from the following URL:

http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/earlyaccessdownload.php?fragment=download

The above link is for NeoOffice Early Access Program members. Starting on 27 October 2009, all users will be able to download NeoOffice 3.0.1 for free.
