For some .odt documents, QuickLook shows only a barely (mostly not) readable image of the respective document. What could cause this problem?

I have not been able to figure out a reason, however, most of the affected documents were created with OpenOffice using Ubuntu Linux. Are there any known problems in connection with OpenOffice documents and QuickLook?

NeoOffice makes a pdf of the first page and embeds it in the document. This has pretty high fidelity. The 'plain' odt documents do not have these and the first page is therefore rendered with less accuracy.

Best wishes,
Oscar

That's not the issue I'm concerned with. The following screenshot should clarify the problem I'm referring to:

OOo by default generates low-quality PNG previews to embed in the document, whereas NeoOffice generates high-quality PDF previews.

I can't keep track any more of what order things are supposed to be used (NeoOffice PDF preview, OOo PNG preview, Apple's on-the-fly ODT QL plug-in), but it sounds like you're always hitting the PNG preview in documents you've generated on Linux.

I think Smokey's theory is likely the correct one: the .odt documents that you are seeing low quality rendering from were not last saved in NeoOffice.

The key here is that NeoOffice's QuickLook plugin does not render an .odt document on the fly. Instead, it merely renders the embedded PDF file in there is one. OpenOffice.org does not include an embedded PDF when saving so if the document was last saved in OpenOffice.org, there will be no embedded PDF.

If Smokey's theory is correct, then opening and resaving the .odt document in NeoOffice should correct the problem that you are seeing.

Does resaving the file in NeoOffice solve the problem?

Actually yes, thank you (and sorry for my late answer).
