I am new to OpenOffice on MacOS X (I got 10.3.5) and to this forum Smile

I have a problem: when I print normal text, it is printed rather in grey instead of deep black (other apps on my Mac like textedit does!).

I already have the option "print in black only" switched on, and I can choose the iP1500 on the printing dialog in OpenOffice Writer, but I have no options for the printer (it only says 24bit, 8bit and "from driver") ...

Can anybody help me?

I can use the PDF-workaround, but the print from within Writer is much better Smile

Thanks,
Gaygoth

Does your printer have both color and black cartridges? If so, the problem is either that OOo is only printing in color (like you mentioned) or that you can't get at your driver's setting to use only the black ink cartridge (similar to my Lexmark). The problem may not be in the Printer Options or OOo, but rather in ghostscript/pstopdf that may introduce the color back into the converted PDF before sending it to the print driver.

First off, does your printer setup utility have a way to change the default settings of the printer to use only black ink? My Lexmark doesn't have this itself. You also may want to try changing the Color setting on the OOo printer settings tab (the Properties... button next at the top of the OOo print dialog) to "Grayscale" instead of "From driver".

If the above can't work around your issue, the only other solution I can think of would be to try using Neo/J as it uses native print drivers directly and can let you get at the settings panel for your print driver within the print dialog to change any color settings or the like.

I was wondering if the "grey image / text" was ever solved.
We are having issues printing from about 50% of our apps.
The Acrobat workaround works, but who wants to print everything twice?
