I accidentally exited a document and clicked "discard" when asked if I wanted to save (I thought I was exiting something else). I am using some software to try to recover the autosave file that presumably existed at some point (I had been working for some time and for some reason neglected to save). I was wondering what the autosave filenames are (so I can search for it from amongst my recovered files).
I am also open to any ideas that could possibly enable me to recover my work.
Thank you.

NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code will put the autorecovery files in the following folder. Note that "~" is your Home folder:

~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-3.0/user/backup

Each autorecovery creates a file in the above folder that has the following name:

"document file name"."document extension"_"autosave number starting from 0"."document extension"

For example, if your document's file name is "mydoc.odt", the first autorecovery file created in that folder will be named "mydoc.odt_0.odt", the second will be named "mydoc.odt_1.odt", and so on.

It is smart of you to immediately try to use file recovery software to try to recover these files because when you pressed the Discard button, NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code deleted all of the autorecovery files for that document that were in the above folder. Hopefully Mac OS X has not reused the disk space that those deleted autorecovery files occupied and can recover one or more of the deleted autorecovery files.
