Thank you for the crash log. From the crash log, this is not a Mac OS X 10.7 bug and is clearly a bug in NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code.

The bug is caused by the OpenOffice.org code calling a function that throws an exception but the calling code is not setup to catch exceptions. So, the uncaught exception causes NeoOffice to abort.

I have run into OpenOffice.org bugs similar to this one before so I will use your crash log to find a good place to catch the exception that might be thrown in your case.

I have created bug 3651 and when I have a fix I will post a test patch for you to try.

One question: do you remember which files you had selected in the file dialog when this crashed occurred? If so, are you able to open each from the file dialog or does one of the files always trigger a crash. If one file always triggers a crash, would you be able to attach that file?

I went back to the documents I was working on, unfortunately I don't have any copies of the exact revisions I was working on last Friday.

On this occasion I was unable to re-create the crash at all; if I selected multiple documents in the Open dialog, NeoOffice successfully opened all the files I selected in whatever combination I tried. Unfortunately that means testing any patch isn't going to be so easy.

I agree this does look like the problem was in one of the documents rather than in the way I was trying to open them. Subsequent editing seems to have corrected the fault. I was messing around with the documents a lot that day; switching between NeoOffice and TextEdit, cutting and pasting between them, and playing with the 'versions' feature of TextEdit and seeing how NeoOffice would handle document files saved with multiple versions. I was quite expecting to run into problems! I had also crashed Finder a number of times trying to get Dropbox to work that morning.

If (when) I have further crashes I'll make sure to keep a copy of the documents I had open at the time.

Thanks for the quick response, by the way, and sorry I couldn't help you any further this time round.

Cheers,
Jon.

OpenOffice.org crashing bugs like these can very often be difficult to reproduce so I am not suprised that you have only encountered the bug once so far.

I will keep the bug open so definitely post if and when this crashing bug occurs again.

Can you install NeoOffice 3.2 Beta and tell us if you have any reoccurrence of crashing or other bugs when running the Mac OS X 10.7 developer release?

FYI. I have fixed two bugs that have appeared in Mac OS X 10.7 Developer Preview 2 in NeoOffice 3.2 Patch 3. You can download the patch from the NeoOffice 3.2 Beta patch download page.

Below is a list of Lion issues that I fixed in the patch:

Bug 3654 - Menubar does not update when changing active window on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
Bug 3656 - Native comboboxes and listboxes do not paint properly on Mac OS X 10.7

Have you experienced this crash on any of the recent Mac OS X 10.7 developer previews? If not, let us know and we will reopen our investigation of the crash.
